Last Minute 4th of July Guide For the BBQ-Less: NYC Edition

When the 4th of July rolls around, like Memorial Day, all of a sudden everybody kind of scrambles to find a pool or a BBQ to crash. This is for those of you that aren’t throwing BBQs of your own, haven’t received invites to any, and have exhausted your list of friends with pools. I got you.

  1. A Day Pass to a Rooftop Pool

@bagatellecity | properly enjoying this super hot weather #BAGATELLENYC

The recent NYC weather has been resembling something similar to that of the deepest pit in hell (it hit 101 degrees just a few days ago). Who wants to be standing in front of a grill in 90 degree weather anyway when you can be pool-side with a view instead? Some of the hottest rooftop and private pools, like the Mccarren, will be open for the 4th of July and selling day passes for as low as $55 to lay on a day bed with a bar, food service, and complimentary wifi. BBQ who?

  1. Adventures at Governor’s Island
One of my favorite things about NYC is the surrounding islands and mini get aways. Governors Island, which is just a ferry away, has more to offer than just concerts. This pseudo getaway not only boasts oasis-like views of NYC, but is home to an amusement park with zip lining, rock climbing, and a maze. If that’s not your cup of tea, you could even use the island owned bikes to rent and get around. Gather a couple of your equally as plan-less friends, buy hella snacks, and trek down to Governors Island.
Note: I would’ve suggested Ellis Island as well seeing as it’s the 4th of July, but it may be super packed. I mean of course, you can take your chances and try it out as well. Patriotic af right?

How your Snapchats are about to be.
  1. La Marina
This was actually just suggested to me by a friend of mine that’s a Bronx native. I know we love to collectively rag on the Bronx and whatnot but it seems like in the midst of all the well deserved drags, theres a gem lying on Dyckman Street just overlooking the Hudson. La Marina is unlike most other NYC restaurants overlooking the water with it’s island vibes (there’s literally sand) and comfortable outdoor canopy seating. The food may be a bit pricy but you get the whole experience for the price of one.

  1. Picnic + Fireworks at Robert Moses Beach

There’s more to NY beaches than Coney Island and Jones Beach. Robert Moses Beach in Fire Island is only an hour away from Brooklyn and one of the most beautiful beaches that Long Island has to offer. Although it’s usually best for just lounging around and catching up on tans, today beach bums and babes alike will be treated to fireworks over the water and a lovely airshow to match.

Coney Island is SHOOK.

Now, as for how to end your 4th of July or any NYC summer night with a bang? I’ll leave that one for next time.

Sincerely,

(Not so) Patriotically Hilly.
